Do Blemishes Go Away?
Blemishes can disappear, however, it depends on their origin and the person’s skin type. A number of things, such as acne, UV damage, hormone fluctuations, heredity, and lifestyle choices, can result in blemishes.
Acne or pimple-related blemishes often fade on their own with time, although it may take a few days or weeks for them to totally go. The healing process may be sped up and new blemishes can be avoided with the use of appropriate skin care products and treatments including topical creams, spot treatments, or prescription drugs.
Age spots and freckles are examples of blemishes brought on by UV damage. With appropriate sun protection and the use of medications with components like retinoids, vitamin C, or alpha hydroxy acids, these blemishes may gradually disappear over time (AHAs).
But, other imperfections, such deep wrinkles or scars, could be harder to heal and might not disappear entirely without medical help, like laser therapy or cosmetic surgery.
What Causes Dark Blemishes?
Dark blemishes on the skin can be caused by a variety of factors. It’s very important to conceal blemishes at an early stage. Here are some of the most common causes:
- Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH): This is a common cause of dark blemishes, especially in people with darker skin tones. PIH occurs when the skin produces too much melanin in response to inflammation or injury, such as acne, eczema, or a cut or scrape.
- Sun exposure: Overexposure to the sun can cause dark blemishes, such as sunspots or age spots. The sun’s UV rays trigger the production of melanin in the skin, which can lead to the formation of dark patches.
- Hormonal changes: Hormonal fluctuations during pregnancy or menopause can cause dark spots on the skin, such as melasma or chloasma. These types of blemishes are often seen on the face and are caused by an increase in melanin production.
- Genetics: Some people may be more prone to developing dark blemishes due to genetic factors.
- Medications: Certain medications, such as antibiotics or chemotherapy drugs, can cause hyperpigmentation or dark spots on the skin as a side effect.
- Skin injuries: Trauma to the skin, such as burns, cuts, or bruises, can cause dark blemishes as the skin heals.
